The Lemonade Journey
The Lemonade Journey is a depiction of António's journey through mental illness.
When asked how he was able to turn his traumatic experience of mental ill-health and being hospitalised into a beacon of hope, António responded:
"When life throws you lemons: you have to learn to make lemonade, but you have to decide what type of lemonade to make, and then you have to accept peoples support with that lemonade".
António diagnosed with, Undifferentiated Schizophrenia and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, experienced auditory hallucinations, which took over his life.
At 16, António attempted to take his life and, as a result, became an inpatient on a mental health ward for roughly two years.
However, that experience went on to shape his ambition.
"Recovery can vary depending on the individual's willingness to get better."
António withholds little shame or blame for what he experienced. Instead, he is humbled by what the journey taught him.
